OptiCalm is a formulation suitable for dogs who suffer from anxiety. It is beneficial for the nervous system and overall well-being of dogs during periods of increased stress.

There are many signs of stress you should be aware of. Some dogs show it by hyperactive behavior, others hide under the table. If your dog is experiencing longer periods of increased stress it can become depressed or aggressive.

Here are some situations that can cause stress, and anxiety to your dog:

  • Stormy nights
  • Fireworks
  • Car rides
  • Crowded places
  • Guest visits
  • Being left at home
  • Vet visits

This product does not compare to sedatives. OptiCalm will make your dog relaxed and a bit sleepy. It will not stop them from greeting your guests at the door but they should be calmer and spend a bit more time sleeping during the day.

We recommend you use OptiCalm during stressful situations only.

*This product contains 60 capsules which is enough for 20-60 servings. The serving size depends on your dog's weight. Find your serving size in the "Weight & daily amount" section. Most dog owners have one pack of OptiCalm for 6-12 months.

Weight & daily amount:

How to use:

Wet food

Take the capsule apart and sprinkle the ingredients all over your dog’s wet food. Mix it and you’re good to go!

Dry food

Our specially formulated blend seamlessly integrates with wet food, ensuring optimal absorption and taste. If you prefer to use dry food, simply moisten it before sprinkling our capsules. This technique prevents the ingredients from sticking to the bowl and guarantees your dog consumes the precise amount for maximum benefit.

Extra tip

You can also mix our supplements with yogurt, pate or something equally delicious!

L-THEANINE

“The present study suggests that the use of l-theanine is an effective treatment for storm sensitivity in dogs. The use of l-theanine decreases the severity of the dog's global anxiety during storms, reduces the time it takes for the dog to return to baseline normal behavior after the storm ends, and diminishes the most commonly reported…”

“In the nutraceutical treated group (ND), serotonin, dopamine and β-endorphins concentration significantly increased from 7.67±1.01 ng/ml to 23.91±7.64 ng/ml, 1.05±0.49 to 2.35±0.76 ng/ml, 70.20±23.82 ng/ml to 317.0±124.1 ng/ml, respectively, for T0 to T1 (Fig 1a–c). In the same group, noradrenaline and cortisol significantly decreased from 2.57±0.52 ng/ml to 1.36±0.15 ng/ml, or 10.44±3.38 ng/ml to 5.86±1.95 ng/ml at T0 and T1, respectively (Fig 1d, e).”

Theanine can also reduce the global anxiety scores in storm-sensitive dogs, as reflected by reduced anxious behaviors (e.g., drooling, following people, pacing, panting, and hiding) and latency to return to a baseline behavioral state after the storm ends [128]. In addition, a study suggests that theanine is effective for reducing fearful behavior toward unfamiliar human beings in dogs [129]. The above research shows that dietary administration of appropriate theanine may serve as a promising strategy for relieving stress and improving anxious behaviors in dogs and cats.

GABA

“The present observation as a whole persuasively suggest that GABA administration once a day at dose of 30mg/kg body weigh is beneficial for enhancing the quality of life in aged dogs suffering from various behavioral signs.”

“A significant depression in the urinary cortisol level was observed at 7 h after administration (P < 0.05). These results indicate that orally administrated GABA exerts calming effects on dogs as well as humans.”

Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23216545/

“Improvement in some of behavioral signs was notable without any observable adverse effects. Dogs administered with GABA tended to exhibit improvement in emotional states and signs may be caused by neurovegetable dysfunction, though effects on cognitive dysfunction syndrome were not always observed.”

TRYPTOPHAN

“The administration of tryptophan supplements contributed to reducing stress and anxiety in the animals in the study, allowing greater availability for the escape, the game or exploration. These results are consistent with other studies carried out with the aim of achieving improvement in dogs living in shelters who suffer from anxiety and are treated with tryptophan supplementation.”

“Tryptophan, and ultimately the serotonergic system, has been shown to influence behaviors related to anxiety, stress, fear, and aggression in a number of mammalian subjects (12–15).”

“The rate of recovery to baseline behavior may prove to be more modifiable by Trp supplementation than the behavioral responses to the initial stressor or situation.”

VITAMINS & MINERALS

“Diets rich in vitamins and minerals may decrease anti-social behaviour in schoolchildren and supplementation of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids decreased anti-social behaviour, including violence, of young adult prisoners.”

NICOTINAMIDE

“There is a growing body of evidence that nicotinamide is implicated in neuronal differentiation and health, neuronal injury, and neurodegeneration in the CNS. Changes in nicotinamide levels have been linked with AD, PD, and HD, and nicotinamide treatment in animal models has shown amelioration of neurodegeneration and associated behavioural recovery. Equally, there is evidence of nicotinamide being used as a restorative agent in animal models of neuronal injury and ischaemia.”

Optishine surprise!

We started giving Optishine to our whippet because of his bare chest, which is quite common for this breed. In addition, his hair was falling out quite heavily, not only with the changing of the seasons. We didn't have high expectations because it's all considered normal. Nevertheless, we decided to give him one capsule a day in his food. We noticed the first observations after a month, when hair loss decreased. He still falls out, but significantly less. We didn't know if it was a coincidence or how long it would last. After a few months, we see that the effect is still there. Also, we found his chest covered with soft down after about three months, which we didn't really expect. Very nice product.

What a change!

Wow, we’ve been using OptiCalm everyday for a week and the change is super noticeable. Leo just seems so much more confident and is far less reactive towards other dogs, which is just great.

FAQs

We wanted to avoid harmful additives or flavor enhancers that are usually used in chews, sticks and other sorts of treats.

That’s why we packed our formulations in sprinkle capsules. You can easily take them apart and sprinkle the ingredients all over your dog’s food or mix it into something that they absolutely love!

Our formulation blends better with wet food but can also be sprinkled over dry food. You can also mix it with yogurt, pate or something equally delicious!

We wanted to make our products healthy and safe to use on a daily basis. That’s why we didn’t add any additives which can be toxic for their body, when used regularly.

We are proud to say that we perfected our formulation to the point where 9 out of 10 dogs eat it without any hesitations.

OptiPaws dog supplements have been carefully formulated by veterinarians and have undergone rigorous testing which proved they are safe to use!

Our supplements are intended to be used as dietary supplements and are not prescribed as medications.

If your dog has known dietary restrictions or underlying health conditions, we advise you reach out to our team of veterinarians who are here to help you answer all your questions.
To get started, solve a short quiz on our home page. This will help them get enough information about your dog to form a detailed & informative response.

OptiCalm will generally help your dog feel relaxed, comfortable, and less inclined to resort to compulsive or aggressive behavior. You can also use it on a regular basis to train them to become less reactive. We always recommend you consult with a dog trainer before doing that.

We recommend introducing OptiCalm to your pup slowly when they are around 12 weeks old. If you have any concerns, please consult your vet or message our vet team at vet@opti-paws.com
